Daniel Farke is already plotting moves for the January transfer window as Leeds United might need reinforcements mid-season.
After only signing two midfielders in the summer, Farke seems to be falling short of expectations when it comes to the centre of the pitch.
The Whites have long thought about bringing in a No.10, but the stars never aligned for the Yorkshire-based outfit. There were many rumours in the summer of 2025, but a busy window meant not all wishes could be accommodated.
The first season following the promotion continues to pose challenges. Farke himself agreed that they fell short on the attacking front in the summer.
The German gaffer would like to fix that mistake, hence he is looking ahead to poach a move from the Championship. Recent reports link the Whites with “one of the best players” from the league.

According to Football Insider, Sheffield United midfielder Gustavo Hamer is still on the Whites’ radar following their long-term pursuits.
The media outlet’s transfer correspondent, Peter O’Rourke, makes significant claims regarding Hamer, including the transfer fee problem that Leeds United might come across.
“I think they’ll definitely always be interested in someone like Gustavo Hamer. He’s a top player, one of the best players in the championship. He’s been on Leeds’ radar before.”
“Whether Leeds would be willing to spend the big money that Sheffield United would demand for Hamer remains to be seen. So yeah, he’s somebody that Leeds have looked at in the past.”
“I don’t think he’s top of their priority list right now. There’s probably other players ahead of him, but if he doesn’t move in January, I’m sure there’ll be clubs looking at him next summer for sure”, Peter told the Inside Track Podcast.
Gustavo Hamer’s numbers
Born in Brazil, Hamer was raised in the Netherlands, starting his football career at Feyenoord. He’s been playing for Sheffield United since the 2023/24 season and has made 94 appearances for the Blades.
The Brazilian has scored 16 goals and made 17 assists, varying his time between defensive, central and attacking midfield positions.
This is another advantage that the former Dutch youth international offers. His versatility can be put to good use to cover injuries or dips in form. However, in recent seasons, he’s mostly appeared in the central and attacking side of roles.
Hamer already has an assist this season in nine appearances. These stats shadow his actual contributions as the midfielder has already contributed to 36 shot-creating actions and two goal-creating ones.
