Charlie Cresswell in contention to start against West Ham, says Marcelo Bielsa

Charlie Cresswell put in a solid performance in his second Leeds United start on Tuesday night, as he starred in the 6-5 penalty victory against Fulham.

Many fans were hoping that Cresswell would feature against Newcastle on Friday but he didn’t. However, Bielsa has since admitted that his dominating performance against Fulham means he has taken ‘a big step forward’ in terms of the pecking order.

When asked about whether he was comfortable giving Cresswell his Premier League debut, the Leeds manager responded with “It is no inconvenience” which does suggest that we could see the under 23’s captain take to the field this weekend.

West Ham are dominant from set pieces and with the absence of Struijk, Leeds could do with Cresswell’s height and overall physicality.

There is also the daunting prospect of marking Michail Antonio which would be sure to test Cresswell to the limit on his Premier League debut – but as they say, you never know if you’re good enough unless you try and Bielsa should give Charlie a deserved chance on Saturday.
