Leeds United sit at the summit of the Championship table on 80 points but Chris Wilder and Sheffield United are level on points with the Whites and are snapping at their heels. The Blades have kept up with a Leeds side who are widely accepted to be the best team in the Championship. Wilder has done well to keep his side on the coattails of Leeds but they have a stiff test lined up this weekend.
Chris Wilder and Sheffield United have been great adversaries for Leeds this season, and they continue to snap at their heels with eight games remaining in the Championship season.
Leeds could find themselves in second in the Championship table by the time they take on Swansea City at Elland Road on Saturday, as Sheffield United will be in action on Friday night.
However, Sheffield United will be taking on one of the in-form sides of the Championship in Coventry City, and the Blades are under pressure to get a result.
Chris Wilder is aware of ‘major taste’ and the shrinking margin for error
Frank Lampard’s Coventry side are the in-form team of the Championship and have won five of their last six games in the division.
Sheffield United will back themselves to get a result at home but Wilder conceded Lampard probably has one of the best squads in the Championship.
He conceded that it will be a real challenge for his players to take on a team who are playing well and under a good manager such as Lampard.
“Coventry City have arguably one of the best groups of players in this division and that’s being shown now”, Wilder was quoted as saying by the BBC.
“They are steaming through everybody so we understand the challenges of what they bring.
“Their support is amazing. It’s a real powerful football club, good manager and real strong set of talented footballers, so this is a major test for us on Friday night.”
Any slip-up and Leeds United can capitalise on Saturday
Daniel Farke’s Leeds side comfortably beat Coventry a few weeks back but Lampard’s men have recovered since then and should be confident of getting a result on Friday night.
The Leeds boss and his players will focus on their preparation ahead of the Swansea clash, but it would be foolish to think they would not have an eye on the game at Bramall Lane.
Can you name these past and present Leeds United players?
The margin for error for the teams at the top has shrunk, and if Sheffield United slip-up, Leeds have a massive chance to build their lead at the summit on Saturday.
Wilder and his men know that while Coventry are playing well, they need to find a way to beat them, as Leeds are prepared to take advantage if they don’t.
