Club chief backs player move to Leeds United – ”he deserves it”

The Athletic revealed earlier this month that Leeds United have become very meticulous with their transfer process. It has involved a lot of scouting, and communication.

Most importantly, Daniel Farke holds direct talks with the potential signings before a green light is given. Leeds are said to value players who want to move to West Yorkshire. And this has shown in the first two signings of the summer. Lukas Nmecha revealed how Farke convinced him of the move, and Jaka Bijol said he was ready to perform for the club.

This is a slight departure from recent seasons which saw players seek moves as soon as something went wrong at Elland Road.

Slovenian defender Jaka Bijol is the latest to arrive in West Yorkshire. A deal for the player dragged on a bit after reports that he had a wedding to attend. Leeds also pushed to get the right transfer fee during negotiations. The 26-year old is a solid pick up by the club, and will no doubt bolster an already solid defensive united.

Bijol’s former Sporting Director, Gokhan Inler, said he was pleased that the player was able to make the move:

“I think he deserves it, because a year ago there was a lot of talk about him,” he said.

“The coach and I really wanted him to stay, but that’s football. I wish him the best. He’s already done well this year, he’s also grown as a leader. He’s a good guy, and he’ll also stop by to say hello before starting his new adventure.”

Bijol’s physical qualities will be vital in the Premier League

Standing at 6ft4, the Slovenian is an imposing figure. He is also dominant in the air – 109 aerial duels won was the fifth highest in Serie A. That heading ability will come in handy in the Premier League, where teams are now adept at set pieces.

Bijol is also brave on the ball, and will slot nicely in the heart of the backline. Leeds have really found a value deal.
