Leeds United are preparing for a massive summer transfer window as they close in on securing automatic promotion to the Premier League. The Whites would be looking at a massive overhaul of their squad if they get promoted and speculation over the transfer business has already hit fever pitch. However, there are also rumours of a few players departing the club at the end of the season. Leeds have a few decisions to make on certain stars who have played a big role in getting them to the cusp of promotion and Junior Firpo is one of the men who is unlikely to be part of their Premier League journey next season.

Firpo’s future at Leeds United has been under the scanner due to his contract, which is set to expire at the end of the 2024/25 campaign, and there has been much speculation over what he could do.

The left-back has been expected to want to sign a new contract if Leeds get promoted to the Premier League. However, there are question marks over whether Leeds want to offer him fresh terms.

Firpo was one of the worst players in the Leeds squad when they were in the Premier League despite his performances in the Championship over the last 18 months.

There are suggestions Leeds are unlikely to offer him a new contract as memories of his struggles in the Premier League are still fresh in the minds of the decision makers at Elland Road.

However, one club are pushing to sign the defender on a free transfer and take him back to Spain in the next transfer window.

A return to Real Betis is on the cards for the soon-to-be out of contract Leeds United star

Despite Firpo’s struggles at Leeds in the Premier League, his performances in the Championship this season have attracted a lot of eyeballs.

Mohamed Salah is the only player who has more assists to his name across England’s top four divisions than Firpo and his attacking game has continued to attract adulation.

Firpo was previously at Real Betis before he moved to Elland Road and it has been claimed that he could be on his way back to the Spanish club this summer.

According to Orgullo Biri, Real Betis are increasingly confident about signing the Leeds left-back on a free transfer at the end of the season.

They have closely monitored his performances in the Championship and believe his game is perfectly suited to excel in Spain despite his struggles in the Premier League.

Manuel Pellegrini has been keeping an eye out on him and the club are in contact with the player’s representatives over taking him back to Betis this summer.

Real Betis are increasingly closer to securing a deal with Firpo to sign him on a free transfer in the summer transfer window and it appears his departure from Leeds is now only a matter of time.

Leeds seem ready to move on from Firpo

Daniel Farke recently insisted that talks over new deals for players would only get discussed at the end of the season, but it seems Firpo’s departure is on the cards.

The left-back has been excellent this season and is one of the best players in the Leeds squad. However, with promotion on the horizon, Leeds are planning for a squad good enough to survive in the Premier League.

Leeds are aware that they would need more defensive solidity to withstand the pressure in the Premier League and Firpo’s defensive weaknesses were ruthlessly exposed by far better attackers previously.

The truth is the left-back has looked one of the best in the Championship because Leeds dominate most of the games, but the weaknesses in the game could become a liability in the top flight.

It seems Leeds are preparing for his departure as the club are weighing up tabling a bid for Spanish full-back Hugo Bueno who has impressed at Feyenoord this season.

Leeds are in the market for a left-back and it seems clear that the club are expecting Firpo to leave on a free transfer in the summer.
