Club legend makes surprise return – Leeds United reveal two major announcements at Elland Road

The build up to the Leeds United home game this weekend was a good one. The Whites returned to Elland Road after winning their first game on the road against Wolves last weekend.

This time around, they would be hosting a tough Bournemouth team – the Cherries had not lost a game since the start of the season. Andoni Iraola already acknowledged how important Leeds’ home form was ahead of the game.

The club also prepared the fans for the game by announcing that they would make two major announcements on Saturday.

Before kick off, the first announcement was made; Leeds United legend and one of the Revie Boys John Giles, was handed a lifetime achievement award at Elland Road. Giles made 527 appearances across 12 years for the Whites lifting multiple trophies including two First Division titles, a League Cup, two Inter-Cities Fairs Cups and a European Cup final.

The 84-year old had a few words for the home crowd: “I’m delighted to be here today and I’m delighted with the response from everyone,”

“I have quite a lot of memories, good memories at Elland Road.

“Getting promotion in my first season, with Bobby Collins, Billy Bremner and all these great players.

“It was a privilege to play with these players. The success we had, winning the league and all those things, we always got a great response from the crowd.”

Lucas Radebe made Leeds United club ambassador
