The Yorkshire giants have pushed the green light on signing a striker, and have an agreement in place to welcome former Everton forward Dominic Calvert-Lewin on a free transfer in the coming days. He may not be the only striker arriving before the September 1st deadline.

Leicester City set to greenlight sale of Leeds United target Bilal El Khannouss

The El Khannouss transfer saga has seen a few twists and turns over the last few weeks. Leeds held talks with his representatives last month and stated their intention to trigger the release clause in his Leicester contract.

It appeared the talks stalled as the midfielder continued to consider his options, but earlier this week, it seemed he was slipping away from Leeds’ grasp.

Newcastle United entered the fray for the attacking midfielder and appeared to be the favourites to sign him, but it has emerged Leeds have the edge in the race.

Leeds are the only club to be in advanced discussions with the player’s camp and have also offered him a contract.

According to Sky Sports News, Leicester are also keen to move on a deal to sell El Khannouss in the ongoing transfer window.

The release clause in his contract is £30m, but it is set to expire at the end of the week. Leeds need to push through in the negotiations and finalise his transfer in the next 48 hours.

Leicester will have the power to demand a transfer fee of their liking if El Khannouss is still at the King Power Stadium this weekend. However, they are keen to move him on soon.

Leeds could have El Khannouss in the team for the Everton game if they act soon

With the release clause expiring on Friday night, Leeds are likely to try and get a deal over the line in the next 48 hours.

Leeds will hope to finalise Cavert-Lewin’s arrival before Friday noon, the deadline for clubs to register players for them to be available for the first round of the Premier League fixtures.

If the Whites accelerate their move for the Leicester star, the attacking midfielder’s arrival could also be finalised in time for him to be in the squad against Everton.
