Leeds United came up with surprises on deadline day after the fanbase thought the team would not be active. The Whites managed to sign two players, with one deal being completed just after the deadline.

The club have now secured quality through the spine of the team, reinforcing every department.

Leeds have been off to a great start to the season; unbeaten in three games and winning two with some players out injured.

On Tuesday, the first deal that came as a bit of a surprise was Melvin Bard. Leeds managed to strike a loan deal with the OGC Nice left back hours before the deadline.

Daniel Farke now has cover for Gabriel Gudmundsson, who has had injury problems in recent months.

Leeds United also managed to land a deal for Frankfurt forward Jean-Matteo Bahoya.

The Frenchman is the second player the 49ers signed from the Bundesliga club after Michael Zetterer.

Bahoya was announced after the deadline, which means he is yet to be officially unveiled by the club. Adam Pope revealed that due to how late the deal was, the 21-year old has not done his media duties and interview yet.

With the completion of the deal, Eintracht Frankfurt Sporting Director Timmo Hardung has spoken a few words about Jean-Matteo Bahoya.

Hardung praised the player and said he had reached ‘international level’.

“Jean-Matteo Bahoya has developed very well at Eintracht Frankfurt and has gradually reached international level.

“The move to Leeds now marks a new stage in his career.

“We would like to thank him for his hard work and commitment.

“We wish him all the best for the future.”

Bahoya is yet to make a senior international appearance, but that could change if he performs well during the season.

49ers’ plan worked out this summer

Leeds really needed to sign a striker considering the departure of Joel Piroe, who contributed minutes as a rotation player last year.

But the club did not manage to land a centre forward, but rather got another wide attacker in Jean-Matteo Bahoya.

Graham Smyth mentioned that the 49ers wanted a younger profile in attack for the striker’s position, but the team still managed to land Bahoya, who is just 21 years old.

There is no immediate pressure on him to succeed and he will provide great competition in the role.

Fans will be eager to see how he fares on the pitch in his first few games.
