Rayo Vallecano Sporting Director David Cobeno has revealed that Andoni Iraola turned down a move to Leeds United.
Leeds were in search of a manager to replace Jesse Marsch as he was sacked over a week ago, with the club approaching the Rayo Vallecano coach. But the club’s Sporting director has come out to confirm that he turned down the offer. The Whites were willing to pay his release clause, but Iraola was not interested.
“Andoni has a clause, like the majority of the employees of the club, in terms of footballers and coaches. From that point, we refer [teams] to the clause.
“From there, the decision of Andoni was clear, and he has given us his word until the end of the season. Sometimes a person’s word weighs more than money, and Andoni has shown as much.”
Leeds are still in search of a manager, with Michael Skubala serving as interim coach over the past two games.
