Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi takes swipe at Leeds United – “Better than these guys”

Crystal Palace Leeds United

Leeds United continued their unbeaten run of games this weekend when Crystal Palace visited Elland Road.

Daniel Farke has revived his side in the last couple of weeks; the Whites recently went on a four-game losing streak. Leeds now have a lot of confidence after picking up huge results in the last couple of weeks.

The Elland Road atmosphere paid off big time as they emphatically beat Chelsea and came from 2-0 down to hold Liverpool to a draw. Last weekend, Leeds picked up their first point on the road since beating Wolverhampton Wanderers in September.

So when Oliver Glasner’s side came to visit, they knew they had a fight on their hands. A brace from Dominic Calvert-Lewin and goals from Ethan Ampadu and Anton Stach sealed a 4-1 win for the home side. Leeds are now six points away from the relegation zone as they approach the midway point of the season.

Crystal Palace star seems to take swipe at Leeds United

On Saturday night, the Whites scored all four goals resulting from set pieces. Oliver Glasner was embarrassed that his side could not deal with the second balls which directly lead to the goals.

When Marc Guehi was asked about his thoughts post-match, he said Palace are focused on their next game against Arsenal who he says are ‘better at set pieces’ than Leeds United:

“We will play a team [Arsenal] who are better than these guys [Leeds] at set pieces, so if we can defend better and contain them hopefully in our low block, and spring a counter-attack, then it will be good for us.

“But again, it is another tough game so we have to learn quickly and move on.

“I don’t think you guys should give us an excuse, because we aren’t giving ourselves an excuse.

“We’ll recover quickly and go again.”

Guehi is wrong, Leeds are better than Arsenal at set pieces

A lot of fans do not realize just how good the Whites are from dead balls. Last season, they were one of the most prolific teams from set pieces in the Championship.

Club Set Piece Goals
Leeds United 12
Manchester United 10
Arsenal 10
Chelsea 10
Aston Villa 8

And in the Premier League, they seem to have gotten even better. The additions of Sean Longstaff and Anton Stach, who are both great at taking corners and free kicks, has seen the team be more threatening from these situations. Leeds are actually the team with the most goals from set pieces situations according to Whoscored.
