Current Leeds United players who will excel in the Premier League

Leeds United sit at the summit of the Championship table and are firm favourites for automatic promotion to the Premier League. The club are gearing up for a return to the top flight and the big plans the owners have for Leeds are dependent on being a Premier League side. If Leeds get promoted, an overhaul of the squad next summer is expected as they will need players who will help them to take that step up and survive in the top flight next season. However, Leeds already have a few players who are good enough to perform in the top flight and are ready to take their game to the next level.

The Yorkshire giants are carrying the heartbreak of last season as fuel as they look to finish in the top two and earn automatic promotion to the Premier League.

Leeds United are in line to hit last season’s points tally, which should be good enough to get them promoted this time around as the 2023/24 Championship campaign was an outlier.

The club are gearing up to play in the top flight and are aware recruitment next summer would be massive if Leeds reach the Premier League and they have to survive in it.

Poor recruitment played a big reason behind Leeds United getting relegated from the Premier League at the end of the 2022/23 season and they need to be close to perfect if they want to avoid making those same mistakes.

However, Leeds already have players in their squad who are good enough to excel in the Premier League and are prepared to take their game to the next level once they get promoted.

Five Leeds United players who should succeed in the Premier League

Joe Rodon

Rodon joined Leeds on loan from Tottenham in 2023 before the move was made permanent last season. He has been part of a Leeds side that scored 90 points last season and they are again on course to match that haul this year too.

The Welshman did make 15 appearances in the Premier League for Tottenham but was deemed not good enough by the north London club. However, he has developed into a brilliant centre-back at Leeds and is one of the first names on the team sheets.

A return to the Premier League would test Rodon’s abilities and whether he has developed enough to be good enough in the top flight two years after Spurs allowed him to leave for Leeds.

However, he is now a battle-hardened centre-back who is a regular for club and country and is more equipped to handle the pressure of playing in the top flight.

Jayden Bogle

Archie Gray’s departure last summer meant Leeds needed a right-back and Bogle was brought in from Sheffield United. He is one of the first names on the team sheet and has been more or less undroppable this season.

Bogle is the best right-back in the Premier League by some distance and is likely to start in that role in the Premier League as well if Leeds get promoted.

Is he good enough for the top flight? His last experience in the Premier League wasn’t great as he was part of the Sheffield United team that got relegated last season.

However, he was one of the very few players who caught the eye and in a more functional team, Bogle would look better if Leeds can build a good squad next summer.

Ethan Ampadu

Ampadu has been one of the best signings in recent years at Leeds. He seamlessly took up the leadership mantle from Liam Cooper last season and is the undisputed captain at Elland Road.

A midfield by trade, the Welshman was almost flawless in defence last season and has easily transitioned back to midfield this season with Joe Rodon and Pascal Struijk impressing as a pair at the heart of the defence.

The 24-year-old has experience of playing in the Premier League when he was at Chelsea but is now grafting hard to get back to the top flight with Leeds.

He has developed into a proper player at Leeds over the last 18 months and if they get promoted, Ampadu will back himself to lead from the front in the Premier League.

Ao Tanaka

The Japan midfielder has been nothing short of a revelation this season. Leeds signed from Fortuna Dusseldorf last summer and until October, he was struggling to get into the starting eleven.

However, injuries to Ampadu and Ilia Gruev opened the door for him and he has probably been the best midfielder in the Championship since then.

His agent has already said that the midfielder deserves a bigger stage and he is expected to play in the Premier League regardless of where Leeds are.

He is going to be massive for Leeds in the top flight if they get promoted as he is seen as one of the few players who is already ready to shine in the Premier League.

Daniel James

The Welsh winger is a proven performer in the Premier League for Manchester United, Fulham and Leeds. He is one of the senior players Farke will bank on if they get promoted.

Leeds will need his experience in the top flight as the first season back is likely to be all about ensuring that they remain a Premier League club for at least one more year.

James’ pace and willingness to work hard for the team will come in handy given the Whites will be under pressure in most games and will play on the counter.
