Leeds United fans will be gutted with how the game at Craven Cottage went on Saturday. The Whites went into the game with a lot of optimism after great results against Everton and Newcastle United in the league.
Leeds had control of the game for a large part of 55 minutes, and should have taken the lead in the first half. However, the club continue to lack a clinical option up front. Today, Dominic Calver-Lewin got on the end of a few chances but missed them.
It took an own goal in the dying minutes of the game to seal all three points for Fulham. An unfortunate moment for new boy Gabriel Gudmundsson as the ball went off his head into the net from a corner. After the game, Fulham boss Marco Silva admitted the win was a bit ‘lucky’:
”We are fortunate the way we won the game, it was very tight and balanced. Not the best feeling for Daniel and the Leeds boys, it’s part of the game, sometimes for us, sometimes against us.”

Following the 1-0 loss, Daniel Farke had a lot to say about the players. After another solid showing, they succumbed to another loss after failing to convert their chances. The Leeds boss admitted that his team lacks that bit of quality to win games like today.
“We are fortunate to have a good group and top characters. We know we don’t have best individual quality, so we have to be fitter, tighter, we need to show fighting spirit and be a bit more effective because we don’t have the individual quality like some other clubs.” (quotes via YEP).
Farke then added that with the quality the team have, their only route to results is being conservative.
“We have players we have, so no complaints. We have to have this approach during whole season. Need to keep the games tight. Need to be rock solid at the back. We can’t, no criticism of offensive players, as a newly-promoted side, blow Fulham out of the park.”
Leeds United are on the road again as they face Wolverhampton Wanderers in their next league game.
