Leeds United are under pressure after winning just one of their last five Championship games. They are second in the table and are desperately trying to keep Burnley at bay, who are level on points with the Whites. Farke’s team are under the cosh and need a win this weekend at Luton Town. However, the Leeds manager is also keen to avoid talking about one subject that is worrying every supporter.
Farke and his Leeds United players are working hard to ensure that they are in a position to get all three points from their trip to Kenilworth Road on Saturday.
The German has never won a game away at Kenilworth Road during his managerial career, but he needs that record to change to calm down a jittery Leeds fanbase.
Leeds supporters are aware of their record in the playoffs, and they are desperate to see their side get the job done and earn automatic promotion to the Premier League.
“I don’t want to talk about the playoffs” – Leeds United manager
Farke and his Leeds players had to swallow the bitter pill of losing the playoff final against Southampton at Wembley last season.
The Leeds players were left distraught, and the Whites fans had to leave Wembley with tears in their eyes after watching their Premier League dream get shattered.
The supporters are wary of similar scenes if Leeds again drop to the playoffs this season, and Farke insisted that he does not want to talk about it at this stage of the season.
He stressed that this season is different from last in many ways, and he is still very confident that Leeds will earn automatic promotion by finishing in the top two.
“If I’m honest, I don’t want to speak about the play-offs right now”, Farke said in a press conference.
“I’m pretty upbeat, a different scenario from last season when we were in a chasing situation. Leicester were 17 ahead, Ipswich were far away, 9, 10 wins in a row, and we were still some points behind. We had a situation where Southampton, who were the biggest favourite for the top two before the season, were behind us.
“Different this season, the last weeks and months we’re always in the top two, most often top of the league. Sometimes the gap gets a bit closer. I still think we have a great chance to finish in the top two.”
Farke must make his players believe that they will finish in the top two
The Leeds manager has already shown that he is now willing to shake up things to get the team going again in the remaining seven games of the season.
Illan Meslier won’t be starting in goal for Leeds against Luton with Karl Darlow now slated to come in and command the posts, presumably for the rest of the campaign.
Can you name these 10 Leeds United players from the 2000s?
Farke must instill confidence into a Leeds team who are looking a bit jaded and circumspect going into the final few games of the Championship season.
Leeds are the best team in the division, and Farke must make the players believe that they will not lose out against two teams, Sheffield United and Burnley, who are not better than the Whites.
