Daniel Farke has emerged as one of the most successful managers in recent Leeds United history, earning huge credit for guiding them back to the Premier League. Yet, he now faces immense pressure to prove he can thrive in England’s top flight.

The 48-year-old German’s previous two stints in the Premier League ended in tears. His Norwich City got relegated in the 2019/20 season, and he was sacked midway through the 2021/22 season after a harrowing run of form at Carrow Road.

His Leeds side have made a decent start to life in the Premier League, earning four points from their opening three games. It does include a 5-0 defeat at Arsenal, but they did beat Everton at Elland Road and battled to a 0-0 draw against Newcastle United just before the international break.

The Whites are being backed to survive in the Premier League by several pundits. However, the threat of relegation often leads to club hierarchies making weird decisions, given the finances at stake, and Farke needs to be wary of it.

Can you name the team Leeds United signed these players from in the 2000s?

Leeds United may have a Daniel Farke replacement in the market

Nottingham Forest opted to part ways with Nuno Espirito Santo last night, despite his key role in guiding the club back into European football last season.

The Portuguese and the club’s owner have had a few public spats this season, and Nuno’s relationship with sporting director Edu was believed to be non-existent.

The frictions behind the scenes led to his dismissal at the City Ground on Monday night, and the club are set to appoint former Celtic and Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou as their new manager.

Nuno is now available in the market, and for any Premier League club that could be looking to change managers in the next few months, he would be a very attractive proposition.

He has a proven track record in the Premier League, having kept Wolves in the top flight and helped Nottingham Forest return to European competition.

If a club are struggling for results in the next couple of months, Nuno could be the perfect candidate to come in and steady the ship for the latter half of the season.

Farke will be under increased pressure

Nuno’s availability puts pressure on all the managers who are in the bottom half of the table, as a poor run of results could lead to their respective clubs wanting a change in the dugout.

Sometimes clubs delay sacking an underperforming manager because of a lack of viable candidates, but the former Forest boss solves that problem.

The 49ers’ development plans for Leeds hinge on the club remaining in the Premier League over the coming years, making them keen to avoid the threat of relegation.

If results go south for Farke and his team, it would be very tempting for the Leeds hierarchy to push for a change and bring in Nuno to replace the German.

The Leeds owners are eager for Farke to succeed, thanks to his role in securing promotion. Yet football is a ruthless, results-driven business, and sentiment could count for very little if the pressure mounts.
