Daniel Farke has huge selection decision to make ahead of Burnley game – options assessed

Leeds United boss Daniel Farke decided a big change after the last international break. He tweaked the lineup against Fulham, which raised a lot of eyebrows and complaints from the fans.

Brenden Aaronson, Noah Okafor and Dominic Calvert-Lewin played together as the front three for the first time this season. None of them scored in the game, but in the subsequent match, Leeds scored three goals. It was the first time in years the club had scored three or more goals away from home in the Premier League.

The subsequent games saw the Whites score two goals against a Bournemouth side who had conceded just one goal in three games. Leeds narrowly lost to Spurs, and could have gotten a result if they were not let down by the finishing.

One of the key changes to the lineup was reintroducing Brenden Aaronson. The American had been out of favour since the first game, but somehow managed to enter the team again. Daniel Farke praised the American for his performances after the Spurs game:

“Also the last performance, and he always was excellent, also involved in many things.

“I think this was another decent performance from Brenden – not perfect, as always, some things can be a bit less complicated, a bit more straight and a bit more effective. But we are all happy that we have him right now and his work rate is never in doubt.”

But this weekend, Aaronson could start from the bench if a decision is made. The USA play their last game of the international break on Wednesday morning UK time – meaning he will most likely be only available to train on Thursday.

Wilfried Gnonto vs Brenden Aaronson

Wilfried Gnonto is also expected to be fit after a calf injury ruled him out of the last three games. If Aaronson is not fit enough to star, the Italian could well likely be the alternative. The statistics present the case for both players ahead of this weekend’s game:

  • Brenden Aaronson: 8 shots, 0 goals, 0 assists, 5 chances created; 13 tackles, 18 recoveries
  • Wilfried Gnonto: 5 shots, 0 goals, 0 assists, 1 chance created; 9 tackles, 6 recoveries

It is highly likely that because the balance the American brings, he will most likely get the nod against Burnley.
