Daniel Farke issues cautious Leeds United transfer warning – ‘We cannot do anything crazy’

Leeds United manager Daniel Farke is focused on preparing his side for their Premier League opener. Everton are set to visit Elland Road on Monday night to kick off the season for both teams as the Whites prepare for the top flight after two years in the Championship.

The Whites won the Championship last season to earn promotion to the Premier League, but the club are now facing the uphill task of establishing themselves in the English top tier in the next nine months.

Leeds have already signed seven new players since the end of last season to bolster and improve their squad this summer. Dominic Calvert-Lewin will become the eighth new face once he completes the formalities of his free transfer move.

The Yorkshire giants are expected to bring in more players to further improve their attack. Leeds hope to sign one more striker, a winger and another attacking midfielder before the transfer window closes on September 1st.

Leeds boss Daniel Farke has insisted that Leeds need to do more in terms of adding players to their forward line, even after the arrival of Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

However, he stressed that Leeds cannot go crazy with their spending as it could limit the cliub’s spending ability in the future if things go wrong this season.

“I have also made it clear that we need to strengthen our squad properly in the offence”, Farke said in a press conference.

“With Dominic, it’s the first and important step, but there is still business to be done, and also, as a newly promoted side, you need to be careful about what we can spend in terms of PSR.

“We need to be careful about not doing anything crazy, which more or less limits the club in the future. We need to establish ourselves at the Premier League level.

“Dominic is the first step, but he can’t be the only step.”

Leeds need more players to boost their survival chances

Farke’s team have looked solid in pre-season and didn’t taste defeat despite facing teams such as Manchester United, Villarreal and AC Milan this summer.

However, Leeds have looked bereft of ideas in the final third and lack goals in the squad. Lukas Nmecha and Joel Piroe are not good enough to keep them up.

Calvert-Lewin has Premier League experience, but has struggled with injuries and scored 17 league goals in the last four seasons.

Leeds need one more striker to bolster their options and add more creative depth to their midfield before the transfer window closes in the next couple of weeks.
