At the start of the season, Leeds United seemed to have a goalscoring problem – with one open play goal in the first four games. But then some tweaks brought the team to life.
With Noah Okafor and Dominic Calvert-Lewin in the lineup, the team burst into life scoring six goals in three games before the international break. But after Saturday’s loss to Burnley, it seems like the defence should be the area of the pitch under close inspection.
Leeds have conceded seven goals in their last four games, without a clean sheet.

Daniel Farke stands by center back pairing

In today’s post match press conference, the media fielded questions on whether Farke would be open to starting Jaka Bijol or Sebastiaan Bornauw in the next game. This comes after Struijk especially, has been questionable on some of the goals the Whites have conceded recently. But the Leeds boss insists today’s defeat was not on the defenders.
“But that was not the problem today,” he said.
“So they played their part in order to be that dominant and to not allow chances.
“Sometimes, of course, when you don’t have a perfect result everyone is crying for a change, but we don’t change just for the sake of it.
“It makes no sense when you go into the details, what the center-backs, for example, have done so far during the season, then there’s not really much to criticise.
“Pascal perhaps could have won the header against Bournemouth and on the deflected strike was a bit unlucky in the last game, but also today, centre-backs nothing to do with the goal.”
Questions raised about Leeds United summer signings
It has been over two months since the start of the season, and summer signings Sebstiaan Bornauw and Jaka Bijola are yet to play a minute in the Premier League. Daniel Farke said the only reason that they have not been involved yet is the form of the current starters. But with Leeds leaking goals every game, at some point there needs to be a change.
You do not just splash over £20million on two top defenders from European leagues to come and sit on the bench all season. Farke needs to take a closer look at the club’s frailties once again.
