Leeds United generated 15 total shots in their 2-0 win over Cardiff City on Saturday, but considering that the Whites played with one extra man, manager Daniel Farke believes this should’ve been a convincing win.
Cardiff City defender Joel Bagan received a straight red card for a last-man foul in the 23rd minute, leaving his team at a disadvantage for the remainder of the match.
Leeds took full advantage of the situation, with Largie Ramazani scoring in the 30th minute to give the away side a 1-0 lead. In the 87th minute, substitute Joël Piroe found the back of the net, securing an important insurance goal.
Is Daniel Farke concerned about effectiveness?
Heading into the final 45 minutes, many anticipated that Leeds would capitalize on a struggling Cardiff City side, but that didn’t happen. Leeds managed just four shots and couldn’t seal the game until the later stages of the second half.
Despite playing against a 10 men Cardiff City, the visitors didn’t take advantage of their scoring chances and that has manager Daniel Farke concerned.
“So, our conversion rate, our effectiveness in using the chances, was again [on Saturday] more or less the only thing I could criticise,” Farke told Leeds’ official website. “There is no doubt about this and we will keep going on addressing it because we have to improve this. But apart from that, it was a really, really good away performance and definitely also well deserved.”
Farke and his team will attempt to show that this game was a one-off regarding their finishing. While securing the victory is the most important thing, there are also things like style points, especially against a poor side like Cardiff City.
Nonetheless, a win is a win, and Leeds took all three points from their trip to Wales. This victory puts Farke’s squad in the top six, though questions remain about their performance against Cardiff City.
Now, Leeds is turning their attention to another struggling team in the Championship: Coventry City. The Whites will host the Sky Blues next Saturday and are expected to be favorites in this matchup as they look to narrow the gap on the top two spots.
