Many thought Leeds United had wrapped up their business last month. After seven new signings, and a potential deal for Igor Paixao and Rodrigo Muniz the plans for the team looked complete.

The Whites missed out on Paixao, who chose a move to Marseille. And now, Muniz is set to leave Fulham for another club. Leeds United boss Daniel Farke has made it a point to hammer home over the past few weeks that the club needed some reinforcements. The attack was the key area of concern, with Farke emphasizing that the team needed some quality in that area.

Leeds signed Dominic Calvert-Lewin this week, but even then, Daniel Farke has urged the club to do more.

”Dominic can’t be the only step. We are on a good path, prepared for the first games and I hope when the transfer window is over we have a squad who is capable of fighting for being the first team who breaks this curse because we have one clear target to stay in this league.”

There are now reports that Leeds could make up to three more signings after Calvert-Lewin. Finance expert Dan Plumley has given his opinion on the club’s spending and Farke’s requests this week.

“Yes, it is, and I guess you’ve got to be careful with that,” he told MOT Leeds News.

“We’ve seen it backfire, and it’s obviously aggressive tactics, and I understand that Leeds have spent money, they haven’t spent as much as the other two promoted clubs on a pound-for-pound basis, but they’ve got a far better squad cost-wise, and being in the Premier League recently than Sunderland have.”

Plumley also explained why Burnley and Sunderland can spend more, due to promotion parachute payments.

“Burnley are in a similar boat, so if you’re looking at him against the two other clubs that have come up, it might be there that you feel like you’ve got to put that little bit of pressure on, but you have got to be careful as well within that as a manager because you’ve got to play that political game with it as well.

“And, I’m sure every manager would want more signings, but it doesn’t always play out that way, so it seems he’s trying to put the pressure on a little bit, but you have got to manage that, and expectations within the club as well linked to the owners and ultimately what they want to do.”

Do Leeds need more signings?

The club have done enough recruitment, but Daniel Farke is right – the attack needs a few more additions. Maybe one more striker, and a winger would be the perfect outcome for this window.

Mostly because the collection of center forwards are not guaranteed to score goals, and neither are the wingers. That is why Leeds need to target proven options in both areas before the end of the month.
