The mood at Leeds United has completely flipped over the past few weeks. It was not long ago that the Whites were facing the daunting task of playing Aston Villa, Manchester City, Chelsea and Liverpool in consecutive games.
But the Whites seem to have come through this run of games with renewed optimism. Leeds won four points from a possible six in games against Chelsea and Liverpool which has given everyone around the club a huge boost. Daniel Farke also seems to have given himself some breathing space after reports that he could be sacked during their difficult run of fixtures.
| Position | Club | Points |
|---|---|---|
| 16 | Leeds United | 15 |
| 17 | Nottingham Forest | 15 |
| 18 | West Ham United | 13 |
| 19 | Burnley | 10 |
| 20 | Wolverhampton Wanderers | 2 |
Now, the Whites can look to a relatively ‘easier’ schedule between now and the New Year, where they can hopefully get some points on the board.
Expert believes Daniel Farke will stay in charge at Leeds United during January window
It will be key for Farke to get his men across the line as the January transfer window approaches. Keeping himself in the Leeds United job could be one of the key reasons why the 49ers will spend in January, according to Dan Plumley. The football finance expert believes that sacking Farke would have completely changed the recruitment plans for next month:
“Yes, it will have an influence on January spending,” Plumley told MOT Leeds News when asked about Farke potentially being sacked.
“It would have done either way in truth, as any new manager would have probably wanted to bring in some new players anyway.
“The league position, as much as anything, will dictate what happens in January, so I would expect Leeds to spend a bit of money.
“The reality is that Wolves look gone, so you are then looking around you and working out what you think everyone else is going to do as well.”
Leeds boss has done just enough to keep his job
Daniel Farke has lead a huge turn around in Leeds United’s fortunes. It was not long ago that the club was on a losing streak and heading into the relegation zone. Now, with some new found confidence, the Whites can focus on getting more points on the board ahead of January.
| Opponent | Home/Away | Result |
|---|---|---|
| Liverpool | Home | 3-3 Draw |
| Chelsea | Home | 3-1 Win |
| Manchester City | Away | 2-3 Loss |
| Aston Villa | Home | 2-1 Loss |
And hopefully when the window opens, the 49ers will back the club in the transfer market. A repeat of what happened in the summer should not be on the cards, as Premier League survival could be at stake.
