Leeds United are counting on other players in the attack to replace the goal production that Crysencio Summerville and Georginio Rutter left behind with their departures to the Premier League.
With 29 goals departing with the exit of two players, Mateo Joseph has the opportunity to become a vital part of The Whites’ attack. The 20-year-old is already taking advantage of his playing time, scoring one goal and registering two assists through four Championship matches this 2024-25 season.
In a recent interview, Sky Sports’ David Prutton predicted that the Leeds United youngster is set for a standout season at Elland Road.
“There’s potential there,” Prutton told the Yorkshire Evening Post. “But the potential obviously has got to turn into something pretty concrete. For him and the club and team, you’d like to think that this would be his breakout season, where he announces himself as the man that leads a line with the requisite goals to boot.”
With football becoming a young man’s support, it comes as no surprise that Prutton is banking on the player to have a breakout year. Moreover, the presenter isn’t the only person giving praise to Joseph.
Mateo Joseph draws praise from teammate
Joseph probably wants to show everyone at Leeds that they can count on him to help produce goals, whether he’s scoring them himself or providing an opportunity for others to score. In an interview, Leeds’ Daniel James praised the hard work that he’s seeing from James.
“What gets me most about him is his aura,” James told The Second Tier podcast (h/t LeedsUnited.news). “He wants to do better, he’s always staying out doing extras, he wants to be better, great professionalism.
“His work rate off the ball is second to none. He’s not lazy, he’s always working hard. You see him winning the ball back in full-back positions. You have to remind him to stay up front but he’s got that about him.”
If Leeds does secure promotion to the Premier League this season, it wouldn’t be surprising to see that Joseph played a significant role in the outcome, considering how the season has started for him.
