Leeds United boss Daniel Farke was trusted to take charge of the club, with the aim of winning promotion. He brought the Whites back to the top flight after two years and is now leading a new charge.

Nobody would have thought the club would have gotten off to a better start than tonight. Leeds beat Everton 1-0 infront of the Elland Road crowd as they sealed their first three points of the season. Daniel Farke was pleased with the ‘outstanding’ performances:

”I think overall a hard-fought win. Outstanding performance. Very dominant in the first half. 12 shots in the first half.

Was a bit worried. Normally you have to reward yourself with a goal and teams like Everton cane get a goal then you get praise but no pts on the board.

Always have to be switched on. Sometimes you lose confidence (if not score). Step by step we won momentum back and then in the last minutes to go into the last minute.”

Leeds took the lead very late in the game after Everton captain James Tarkowski was deemed to have handled the ball in the box after a shot from Anton Stach. After the game, Tarkowski was furious with the refereeing.

His head coach David Moyes was even more frustrated with the decision that caused their defeat, calling it ‘unfair’:

“Leeds were better than us on the night, certainly the first half. We were better in the second half and on that alone we might have had a chance of winning the game.

“But, the goal is completely wrong and really harsh. It’s difficult to lose on that. I spoke to the referee and they seem to think that because you lean then your arm is in the way.

“It took a deflection, I don’t know if Tarky would have had to get him arm chopped off to stop it doing anything different. VAR had a chance to get that decision right and fair but it wasn’t right or fair.”

Everton did not play well to deserve a win

The toffees had seven shots in total, with just one on target. They created one big chance all game compared to the three from Leeds United. Moyes’ side did not deserve anything from this game, and were lucky not to have lost by a bigger margin.
