When Everton met Leeds United earlier this season, the Whites sprung up one of the early surprises in the Premier League. On the opening day of the campaign, Farke’s side left with all three points.
It was a hotly contested game between both sides, but what decided the result was the Lukas Nmecha penalty at the end of the game. Everton and David Moyes protested the decision, but VAR already confirmed the call. Since the start of the season, both teams have had different paths.
Leeds have had many ups and downs before settling near the end of last year, now the club have some optimism when it comes to survival. Everton have been consistent and hovered in and around midtable this season, staying away from the lower half of the table.
David Moyes praises Leeds United form
Both sides meet again on Monday night at the Hill Dickinson Stadium, but their form could not be more different. The Toffees have been struggling recently, winning just two games in their last eight matches. While Leeds United do not win a lot, they have only suffered one defeat in their last seven matches. Ahead of their clash, David Moyes has praised Daniel Farke and how he has turned things around since the end of last year:
“In management, you have to find ways of winning and sometimes when you’re not doing so well, you need to find other ways of getting results, and I think he’s (Farke) done that.
“He’s got some good players at Leeds United, they certainly have, and this change of style and system has certainly helped them.”

Daniel Farke has improved as the season goes on
David Moyes is right about Farke finding ways when his team has not been at their best. The tactical shift to the 3-5-2 is not the only thing that has lead to the club’s turn in form. His team selection and in-game changes have also been spot on.
It was earlier this season that fans complained that Daniel Farke was always picking the wrong Leeds United lineups. They also said that the German never reacted in games when the opponent made changes, but the two things have seen an improvement since last month. Farke has found new roles for players in the team, and now every lineup comes with a purpose – Brenden Aaronson has benefitted from this in the past few weeks.
