Many thought Leeds United had left things a bit too late in the transfer window on deadline day. Before Tuesday, the Whites had only signed five players in the summer window.
The club was still working on deals to get signings in and out of the club.
Leeds still had to get in an attacker to replace Wilfried Gnonto, and the club also had some other issues to address.
So it came as quite a surprise when news emerged about a move for Melvin Bard. The OGC Nice left back eventually joined the club on a season-long loan with an option to buy.
Bard’s arrival was one of two deals that came to Elland Road.

The 25-year old has played all his career in Ligue 1 with Lyon and OGC Nice recently.
Joining Leeds United will be his first career experience outside the borders of France, and the defender is looking forward to it.
“Super happy to be here,” Bard said to LUTV.
“I can’t wait to discover the city, the stadium, my teammates as well, and to start playing in front of the fans.
“Leeds is a historic club in the Premier League so it was an easy choice. Leeds has a great history which makes the club an attractive one.
“And the fans, the atmosphere – there are many players that told me that it was hard to play in Elland Road Stadium. So, all of this is why I am very happy to be here and what I know about the club and the squad.”
“The target for me is to play as much as possible, starting games and helping the team as much as possible to reach the targets,” he added. “I would describe myself as someone who never gives up as a player.
“I am a defender and I love to defend. I love to attack as well, of course. But to sum it up, I would just say I like the fight and I never give up. I can’t wait to play in front of the fans and to see for myself this world-famous atmosphere. And I am sure we will like each other!”

Whites get cover for Gabriel Gudmundsson
Leeds have started this season with James Justin at left wing back for the first three games.
Even though the Englishman can play there, he is dominant with his right foot. The club have not had a natural left footer to provide cover to Gabriel Gudmundsson.
So Justin has needed to step in during the Swede’s absence.
The arrival of Bard eases the pressure on Justin, who can now be full-time deputy for Bogle. Bard also brings versatility as he can play on the left of a back three as well as wing back.
The 49ers solved on key issue in this window with that signing.
