Austrian midfielder to consider his future after offer from Leeds United

Dejan Ljubičić is now considering his future in Germany

After responding to transfer rumours, FC Köln midfielder Dejan Ljubičić is considering his future in Germany. Leeds United had previously submitted an offer of £3.3million for the midfielder but it was rejected by The Billy Goats.

United are concerned with the midfield situation at Elland Road following many players in the position leaving the club. Finnish footballer Glen Kamara left for Rennes and 18-year-old Archie Gray went to Tottenham Hotspur.

Spending only one season at Elland Road, Kamara had cemented his spot in the middle for Leeds. The Finnish midfielder will be a difficult one to replace as he had one of the best seasons of his career at Elland Road.

18-year-old Archie Gray was set to be the future for The Whites. Unfortunately, financial problems forced The West Yorkshire outfit to sell him for a fee of £35 million.

There have also been other high-profile departures and the club needs at least three new players, a winger, midfielder and full-back. These are the three main positions players have departed from and United needs to fill in the spots fast.

In the midfield, Leeds have eyed Austrian midfielder Dejan Ljubičić who only has 12 months left on his contract. German outlet BILD, suggests that FC Köln would like to cash out on the player and aren’t keen on losing the player on a free next summer.

Many reports say that Leeds United is preparing a significantly better offer. They wouldn’t want to lose Dejan like how they lost Gabriel Sara. Gabriel Sara signed for Galatasaray for £20 million following Leeds’ slowness to present a new offer.

According to BILD, Ljubičić is now considering his future in Germany following The Whites’ bid. However, the report says that Köln are expecting a bigger offer and would like to cash out this summer.

The German outfit doesn’t want to lose him for free next summer considering his contract expires then. Despite a bad season last year, the Austrian midfielder is back in form as he assisted a goal in their loss against Hamburger SV.

Dejan has yet to reveal his intentions to the public as he preferred to keep that to himself in an interview with 90Minuten.

“Rumours are part of football. But I don’t concern myself with them. I’m here in Cologne, where I want to perform well again. I want to show people that ‘Dejan is playing good, powerful football again’, which is what has distinguished me in recent years.”
