Leeds United and Sunderland played out a hard fought draw at the Stadium of Light on Sunday. Daniel Farke’s side could have picked up a huge win in their fight for survival but failed to do so.
Leeds were the better side for most of the 90 minutes, after absorbing pressure in the first half hour. This result marks just the second time the club have picked up points on the road since beating Wolves near the start of the season.
Farke has this team on a great run of form, and it has shown as they have beaten much better opposition. Wins over Chelsea and Crystal Palace over the past few weeks have seen the Whites distance themselves from the relegation zone.
Fans think Simon Adingra should have been punished after challenge on Leeds United star
The game was fiercely contested, with players on each side showing they were up for the fight. However, in the first 20 minutes of the game, Sunderland players were flying into challenges. Joe Rodon was on the receiving end of two reckless ones, with the last tackle from Simon Adingra ending his game prematurely.
Fans online were furious that the referees and VAR completely missed the incident, as the Sunderland man went unpunished.
”Adingra scoring is a disgrace. Should have seen red 5 minutes before.” on fan posted on Twitter/X.
Another user said: ”Adingra injures Rodon with a nasty tackle. No booking. Seconds later he scores, and it looks like Rodon might have to go off. Really is no justice in football.”
A Leeds fan tweeted that Premier League rules should have seen Adingra punished: ”From your own website @premierleague, so why was Adingra not punished with a red card? He caused an injury, which seems reckless to me. Adingra shouldn’t be on the pitch. Therefore Sunderland shouldn’t have scored.”
”Adingra should have seen red, yellow at the very least for nearly snapping Rodon’s leg. What’s wrong with var? Shocking. But we all know there’s an agenda.” another user added.
New found away form could be crucial for the Whites
The second half performance at the Etihad a few games ago seems to be the blueprint for this turnaround in form. Since that game, Leeds have gone five unbeaten, putting crucial points on the board.
| Statistic | Leeds United Away | Leeds United Home |
|---|---|---|
| Games | 9 | 9 |
| Points | 15 | 5 |
| Goals | 17 | 8 |
| Goals Conceded | 12 | 20 |
What is more impressive in this run is how the team have improved away from home. They were poor prior to facing Manchester City, but have now been able to get results at the Gtech Community Stadium and the Stadium of Light. If they can keep this up for the rest of the season, then survival will be very achievable.
