Leeds United confirm that Djed Spence will be out of action for around eight weeks with a ligament injury.
The fullback was signed on loan from Tottenham Hotspur close to deadline day to provide depth at fullback. During the summer, Rasmus Kristensen departed on loan to AS Roma, Leaving Luke Ayling and Sam Byram the only senior options. The 23-year-old has only played 10 minutes of league football but finds himself already on the sidelines.
The statement from Leeds revealed that he would not need surgery, and would be out for up to eight weeks:
“Leeds United defender Djed Spence picked up a knee injury following a challenge in training last week, and following scans, we can confirm he has damaged his lateral collateral ligament.
The injury is not expected to require surgery and we expect Djed to return to play within eight weeks.
We wish Djed a speedy recovery.”
The fullback could miss up to 10 games out with injury and is not expected to return until the November international break.
