Don’t see that ‘little bit of spark’ in the Leeds United team, admits pundit

Former Leeds United star Aidy White has conceded that the Whites do not have the game-changing spark in the team following the departures of Crysencio Summerville, Georginio Rutter and Archie Gray.

Leeds were forced into selling Summerville, Rutter and Gray in the summer after they failed to earn promotion to the Premier League last season.

The Whites did some late window business to strengthen their squad but have made a slow start to the season and are sitting ninth in the Championship table.

Their 1-0 defeat at home to Burnley on Saturday underlined the issues Leeds have in their forward line this season following losing Summerville and Rutter from the team.

White indicated that it was always going to be hard to replace the three players as they had quality far beyond the Championship level last season.

White insists that Leeds United are missing the spark in their team that could change games

The former Leeds star stressed that unless some of the players decide to step up and push the team forward, he cannot see anyone with the spark in the Whites side who could change games on their head with a bit of magic.

He conceded that it is far too early to pass any judgements on the new signings who arrived at Leeds in the summer and he is hopeful that they shine for the Whites in the coming months.

“Your Summerville, Rutter and Archie Gray are three very very good players who are well beyond this level”, White said on BBC Radio Leeds.

“And to not have them this season, and unless players are going to step up or we find a different way of beating teams but at the minute, I don’t see too many having that little bit of spark who can change games.

“We haven’t seen much of the signings so can’t comment on whether they are good or bad signings and only time is going to tell.

“Hopefully they step up to the plate.”
