Emiliano Buendia was a massive player for Daniel Farke when they were at Norwich City and had a big role in getting them promoted to the Premier League. However, he is struggling at Aston Villa this season and has been nothing more than a bit part player at the Midlands club. Unai Emery is open to loaning him out in the winter transfer window and Buendia has been linked with a move to Elland Road. Farke is a fan of the player and the duo reuniting could lead the Yorkshire giants back to the Premier League at the end of the season.
The loan departures of Joe Gelhardt and Charlie Crew are the only significant business Leeds have carried out so far in the ongoing winter transfer window.
Leeds fans want the club to bring in a couple of new faces amidst the injury to Pascal Struijk but Farke has so far decided to keep the powder dry.
The Leeds boss has often reiterated that he is not too keen on adding new faces to his squad in the middle of the season as it could easily disrupt the harmony inside the squad.
However, Farke could be more in favour of bringing in a player he already knows and Emiliano Buendia is exactly the player the Leeds boss could be interested in adding to his squad.
Villa are open to loan offers for a player who is proven in the Championship and has the experience of being a pivotal player in a team that got promoted to the Premier League.
Emiliano Buendia will fuel Leeds back to the Premier League
Leeds cannot afford to sign anyone in the winter window who would take time to adjust to the pace of English football and the Championship.
The Whites do not have that sort of luxury and need players who could come in and make an instant impact on Leeds potentially getting promoted back to the Premier League.
Farke also needs to bring in someone who he could trust at the business end of the season and Buendia ticks all those boxes as a potential signing.
He is a proven performer in the Championship and was part of a Farke team that earned promotion to the Premier League a few years back.
The Argentinian is a silky attacking midfielder who has proven his creative abilities in the Championship for Farke’s Norwich City.
He has struggled in the Premier League but a good half-a-season in the Championship could rekindle his career and reuniting with his former manager could be exactly what he needs at this stage.
An obvious upgrade on Brenden Aaronson
Aaronson has started 25 of Leeds’ 27 Championship games this season but he could have done more in terms of goals and assists for the Yorkshire giants.
He has netted seven goals and registered just two assists but a lack of options in the squad meant Farke has persisted with the United States international in the number 10 role.
Buendia’s arrival will directly threaten his place in the eleven and his previous performance in the Championship shows that he could be an upgrade on Aaronson.
He has 51 goal contributions in 77 Championship appearances and it is obvious he could do more than Aaronson if he joins Leeds in the ongoing transfer window.
An attacking midfielder consistently scoring or assisting goals for Leeds in the latter half of the season could be transformational and lead them back to the Premier League.
A move to land Buendia on loan makes sense for Leeds. They will get a player who is Championship-proven and someone Farke is prepared to trust in big games.
Whether the Leeds boss decides to change his opinion about signing players in January and bring in the Aston Villa attacking midfielder in the next couple of weeks remains to be seen.
