Premier League club makes new bid for Leeds United linked goalscorer

Ipswich Town have made a new bid for Sammie Szmodics

The match against Portsmouth made one thing clear, Leeds United needs a goalscorer. Even after being stacked up front, The 49ers missed rookie chances that could’ve got them 3 points on opening day.

Although Brenden Aaronson scored the late equaliser, he also missed an open 1v1. The Whites hit the bar three times in the opening minutes of the match.

The 49ers’ perfect record in pre-season never helped them miss Crysencio Summerville. But now as the campaign started the club knows that the jig is up.

Mateo Joseph continued his pre-season form but couldn’t convert it into finding the back of the net. The West Yorkshire outfit undoubtedly lacks a goal-scoring threat.

Crysencio Summerville left for West Ham United in a deal worth Ā£25 million plus add-ons. The best player in the Championship had left who was a part of 31 goal contributions last season.

It was not only about the goals but also about the creativity and chances he’d get. In an attempt to replace him, Leeds United were trying to sign Norwich City’s Jonathan Rowe but French giants Marseille now handle the ship in this deal.

Roberto De Zerbi’s side is said to be the front runners in the race following an Ā£8 million bid. Maybe The Canaries are convinced that they’ll need to cash out the player soon as his contract expires next year. Hence they are ready for a sale to the highest bidder.

Blackburn Rovers striker and last season’s Championship Golden Boot winner Sammie Szmodics has been on Leeds’ radar for a while. While not a direct replacement for Crysencio he has got the goal-scoring threat.

Winning the Championship Golden Boot last season, this is what The Whites need. As seen in the Pompey match, The West Yorkshire outfit wasn’t low on chances but on goals.

According to Journalist Alan Nixon, Ipswich Town has increased their bid for Sammie Szmodics from Ā£6 million to Ā£8.5 million. The Tractor Boys might just be close to a deal as the price tag on the striker’s head is Ā£9 million.

Having almost lost Rowe and Rak-Sakyi, Leeds can cut their losses by getting Sammie on a permanent. Jonathan Rowe is on the wire as he’ll need to wait for a new offer if the Englishman would prefer Elland Road over Orange VĆ©lodrome.

The Whites have probably made a mistake in offering a Ā£15 million deal for Jesurun Rak-Sakyi as Palace isn’t a fan of a permanent move. Having scored 27 goals last season, Sammie can solve the netting problem at Elland Road.
