Ethan Ampadu offers updates on his injury and the derby

Ethan Ampadu opened up on his recovery

Leeds United captain Ethan Ampadu recently offered insights into his recovery and the most awaited Yorkshire derby. Supporting The Whites from the sidelines, the captain said he was frustrated because due to his inability to participate in the derby.

The Welsh international suffered from a lateral ligament damage last month. This was against Coventry City as The 49ers experienced a 3-0 win at home.

Ethan will hopefully return after the new year. The Welshman’s partner in crime Ilia Gruev is also on the sidelines for a meniscus tear in his right knee.

This incident occurred against Norwich City and Gruev has already undergone surgery. The procedure has rendered the Bulgarian out for the long term and Leeds United are searching for reinforcements to improve depth in the midfield.

The Whites have got only two first-team options in the midfield, Ao Tanaka and Joe Rothwell. Daniel Farke is trying his luck in the free agents market to secure an experienced backup.

Leeds United have already identified two midfielders who are reportedly on trial at Elland Road. World Cup-winning midfielder Christoph Kramer and former Arsenal star Francis Coquelin are currently training at Thorp Arch.

It goes without saying that I am frustrated to be out and missing tonight’s game, after picking up and injury against Coventry in our last home game. That was a great win for us.

Ampadu spoke to Yorkshire Evening Post in regards to his injury and today’s derby. The midfielder mentioned that he was frustrated to be missing the Yorkshire derby tonight.

He also accepted that the game against Coventry City was a great win for the club but it didn’t serve him much good. That game has pretty much rendered him unavailable for four months at least.

Tonight, we face Sheffield United in a match that everyone will be looking forward to. It’s under the lights and will be a tough match between two proud Yorkshire clubs, with lots of support behind them.

It’s one I would love to be out there for, but I am continuing to work hard on my recovery, so I’ll be supporting the boys from the sidelines for now.

Amapdu also told the fans that he is working hard towards recovery, which is a good sign for Leeds United. With the promotion race only getting harder, the 49ers will want to use all their resources to win the league.
