Some Leeds United fans are still unhappy over what transpired in the summer transfer window. Despite the club spending over £100 million, the results on the pitch have not been reflected.
After a decent start to the season, Leeds are now in the relegation zone after three losses in a row. With Manchester City up next on Saturday, the Whites could extend their losing streak. Daniel Farke has also been in the news, with many predicting him to be sacked during this poor run of form.
The attack was the major concern in the summer window, with Leeds only spending £18 million on Noah Okafor. Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Lukas Nmecha joined on free transfers. That same summer saw the club let Mateo Joseph, Joe Gelhardt and Largie Ramazani leave on temporary deals. Gelhardt has been in sensational form in the Championship this season, causing fans to be more frustrated at the decision to let him go.
Luis Blanco happy that Leeds man left on loan
Mateo Joseph and Largie Ramazani have had quiet seasons out on loan. It was only recently that Joseph netted his first goals in La Liga this season. The Leeds man has turned his form around at Mallorca and has received positive feedback around his time there.
| Season | Games | Goals | Assists |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2022/23 | 3 | 0 | 0 |
| 2023/24 | 25 | 3 | 1 |
| 2024/25 | 40 | 3 | 3 |
CD Atlético Baleares manager Luis Blanco, who used to coach Joseph, says he is happy that the forward left Elland Road. The youngster trained under Blanco at Espanyol, and his former coach is proud of his progression so far:
“A very good lad and a very good player.” he said speaking to Deportes Cope Baleares.
“I was happy he returned to the Spanish league after a few years at Leeds. He went there while he was with us at Espanyol,”
“A phenomenal lad with excellent qualities for a striker: intuitive, very powerful. I think he can be a great asset to RCD Mallorca’s attack,”
Will Mateo Joseph leave Leeds United ?
It is clear that the Whites value Joseph as a major asset, and his performances this season have added to that. In many scenarios, Leeds will benefit if the forward joins Mallorca on a permanent deal. But whether the player chooses a move away is up to him.
| Player | Goal Contributions |
|---|---|
| Vedat Muriqi | 6 (6 goals, 0 assists) |
| Mateo Joseph | 3 (2 goals, 1 assist) |
| Johan Mojica | 3 (0 goals, 3 assists) |
During the summer he made it clear he wanted playing time before departing on loan. If he does succeed in Spain, then the Whites will almost certainly lose him. But with the team’s attacking struggles this campaign, many would be wondering why Joseph could not have stayed.
Futbol des de Mallorca have reported that Mallorca are interested in extending the 22-year old’s stay, so Leeds have a very interesting decision to make in the summer.
