Everton linked with Leeds centre-back White

Carlo Ancelotti could turn to Leeds United loanee Ben White this summer as the Toffees look for a new centre-back.

England international John Stones has been rumoured for a return to Goodison Park, however White could be seen as a better alternative.

The 22-year-old, who is on loan from Brighton, has excelled at Elland Road this season and has attracted interest from the likes of Chelsea and Liverpool.

It’s believed White is only interested in first-team football with his stellar season for the Championship leaders earning him a £35 million price tag.

Leeds are expected to try sign White permanently should they secure promotion to the Premier League, but could lack the financial power to complete the deal.

This will open the door to other suitors and Everton could be one of the front-runners as Ancelotti tries to put his stamp on the team for next season.

Former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson, who regularly watches Leeds United, told Football Insider he believes White is better option than Stones for the Blues.

“Ben White would make a lot more sense than John Stones,” he said. “He is already a lot better than Stones in my opinion.

“I am unsure whether Stones is an Ancelotti type of player. Michael Keane and Holgate have done really well, Holgate especially. Since returning from his loan at West Brom he has been outstanding.

“I cannot see Stones as part of the plans at Goodison Park.”

White, who was once part of Southampton’s youth setup, was watched by Gareth Southgate in January after the England manager got wind of his impressive performances for Leeds.
