Former Leeds United forward Georginio Rutter appears to be finding his footing with Brighton & Hove Albion. However, one pundit compared the Frenchman to an Arsenal standout in terms of not knowing his position.
Rutter played a prominent role in Brighton & Hove Albion’s comeback win over Tottenham Hotspur heading into the FIFA international break. The player is beginning to flash the production that he showed last season with the Whites.
After Leeds dropped to the Championship, Rutter really found his footing under manager Daniel Farke, scoring eight goals and providing 16 assists last season. Unfortunately, despite his impressive performances, Leeds fell short of promotion, losing to Southampton in the Championship Play-off Final, which resulted in several players leaving the club.
This past summer, Leeds sold Rutter to Brighton for a reported £40 million. After some early hurdles, the player could be finding his confidence and one expert recently revealed that the price tag was well worth securing a player of his caliber.
Georginio Rutter earns Kai Havertz comparison
Pundits Tim Sherwood and Glenn Murray recently shared some interesting thoughts on Brighton’s interest in Rutter, drawing a comparison to Arsenal’s Kai Havertz.
The former Brighton striker revealed that the club’s data showed Rutter’s numbers in the final third were “off the charts” in the Championship, as he discussed with Premier League Productions.
However, Sherwood admitted to not knowing what the player is and compared the rising French talent to Havertz, who has faced criticism at Arsenal.
“On the data sheet that Brighton use for recruitment, his numbers were off the charts in the final third last season, like final third entries, forward passes,” Murray said (h/t LeedsUnited.News). “Things like that. That’s why the club felt so strongly to go and pay that amount of money for him.”
Sherwood added: “They (Brighton recruitment team) don’t get it wrong. They don’t get it wrong with managers either, as well as players. Give them credit for that. Albeit, in the Championship with Leeds, with the numbers. But if he can continue like that and get some confidence from scoring in the Premier League. You can’t pigeonhole him. I don’t know what he is. But certainly a good technical player. He is very similar to Kai Havertz. He isn’t a nine or a ten.”
