Former Leeds United midfielder Tyler Adams has dealt with injuries since leaving Elland Road in 2023. This past summer, the American standout missed the start of the 2024-25 season after undergoing back surgery and Bournemouth are taking a cautious approach.
Adams joined Leeds on a five-year contract for a reported £20 million transfer fee in July 2022 when the Whites had a handful of Americans in the squad with the others being Brenden Aaronson, Weston McKennie, and Jesse Marsch being on the sidelines.
In his brief stint with the Whites, Adams made 26 appearances across all competitions, scoring zero goals and registering zero assists.
Bournemouth takes a cautious approach with the former Leeds ace
Adams is facing another injury setback with his recent surgery, marking the latest challenge since his $25 million transfer from Leeds last August.
Last season, the USMNT captain played only four matches for the Cherries, totaling just 138 minutes on the pitch, after having surgery to fix his right hamstring in October. He had already undergone a similar procedure while at Leeds, and since leaving the Yorkshire side, Adams has made one start for Bournemouth.
“He’s coming from a period of 18- 20 months where he has played very little football, so we cannot rush anything,” manager Andoni Iraola said. “He has completed all the checks and is ready to train with the group. I hope he’s going to help us from the Arsenal game.”

Adams discussed his back injury in June, acknowledging that it became a concern towards the end of the club season. However, he mentioned that he’s currently working on building up his fitness with the U.S. team.
“It was my back at the end of the season,” Adams said. “But I felt good coming into camp and ready to train, but they were like, ‘No, no, no, let’s just build it up properly.’ Because again, the most important thing for me is obviously to have a good Copa America, but to get into preseason ready to go.
“I just want to get in a fit place where I can have an eight-, nine-, 10-week buildup into the start of the season and be in a really good place to become robust again.”
