Ex-Leeds star would be at Real Madrid instead of Brighton with this one key trait

Former Leeds United forward Georginio Rutter has returned to the Premier League with his move from Elland Road to Brighton & Hove Albion this past summer transfer window. However, one pundit claims that the player could be playing at a much bigger club.

Rutter joined Leeds in January 2023, signing a five-and-a-half-year deal for a club-record fee of £35 million from TSG Hoffenheim. However, he didn’t see much action that season as Leeds faced relegation.

After the club dropped to the Championship, Rutter really came into his own under manager Daniel Farke, scoring eight goals and providing 16 assists last season. Unfortunately, despite his standout performances, Leeds fell short of promotion, losing to Southampton in the Championship Play-off Final, which led to several players leaving the club.

This past summer, Leeds sold Rutter to Brighton for a reported £40 million. He’s excited about the move and eager for another shot in the Premier League, believing this time around will be a completely different experience.

Georginio Rutter at Real Madrid?

There’s no denying that Rutter is a standout attacker as he showed last season, but one former player believes that if the forward had one more trait, he’d be playing at Real Madrid and not Brighton.

“What we do know is getting him in the right areas, and feed him the right deliveries, he will score,” former Leeds defender Tony Dorigo said on the latest episode of the Square Ball Podcast. “He has got a calmness in front of goal that no one else has.

“We talked about Georginio Rutter earlier, if he had the calmness Joel Piroe had he’d be at Real Madrid. But Georgi hasn’t and it goes everywhere. We were looking at the stats from the weekend about Georgi and he had a shot that went how wide?”

Since returning to the Premier League, Rutter has made four appearances in England’s top flight this season. However, he’s yet to record a goal or an assist, but he recently noted that the transition has been a positive one.

“I know people speak about the price, but I just try to forget about the price and enjoy my football,” Rutter told the BBC. “The manager, all of the staff and all of the players know there is a bit of adaptation. It was a warm welcome when I came.

“Carlos Baleba [is helping him settle in], is a very good player, I speak with him and Simon [Adingra] as well, we speak French. I’m trying to improve my English and I speak with everyone.”
