It’s been a challenging start for former Leeds United standout Archie Gray at Tottenham Hotspur. Moreover, the North London club are facing criticism for their transfer strategy this past summer following the loss to Arsenal last Sunday.

TalkSPORT pundit Jamie O’Hara has criticized Spurs’ summer transfers, blaming them for the club’s disappointing start to the season after just four matches.

“Give me Aaron Lennon, Huddlestone, Keane Defoe van de vaart over any of these any day of the week, we sign players from Bournemouth, Burnley, Leeds and Forest then expect championship results #Spurs heads gone,” O’Hara wrote on X.

Joe Rodon believes Archie Gray will succeed at Tottenham

Despite Gray dealing with criticism over his signing, Rodon spoke with Sky Sports about how he sees the young player fitting into Tottenham. The Leeds defender understands the teenager’s position as he completed a move to Spurs in 2021 from a Championship club in Swansea, although he was a bit older.

“Great, great kid. I think, what a lot goes for him is his hard work is his biggest thing,” Rodon told Sky Sports. “We’re all going to be supporting him and rooting for him going forward.”

Moreover, Rodon isn’t the only former Leeds teammate hoping Gray succeeds at the Premier League level. The Whites’ Ethan Ampadu also showed support to the 18-year-old.

“He’s had an incredible breakthrough year but he knows he can go to more levels,” Ampadu told Sky Sports in the same interview. “He hasn’t done anything there but we have belief in him and we’re all happy for him to move on to that next step.”

Gray played in 52 matches across all competitions for Leeds last season, recording two assists. However, the teenager was a versatile player, playing as a right back and all over the midfield at various points.

During this past summer transfer window, Leeds United sold their potential budding star Archie Gray for a reported £30 million. Tottenham secured a standout who is only scratching the ceiling of his potential.

It will be interesting to see if Spurs have the patience with Gray to allow him to continue his development and flash the potential many saw at Leeds.
