Leif Davis is the one who got away from Leeds United, as the 24-year-old has become an essential player for Ipswich Town. On top of that, the defender has signed a contract extension with the Premier League side that keeps him there until the summer of 2028.
Davis joined Leeds in 2018 and spent five years with the club but struggled to secure a spot in the first team, making just 14 appearances in all competitions.
He also has some experience in the Premier League before Ipswich’s promotion. While at Leeds, he made two brief appearances in the top flight, totaling 31 minutes, before the start of this season.
Davis would leave Leeds United in 2021 on a loan stint with Bournemouth, but it was a brief stint. In 2022, he officially moved to Ipswich Town, allowing the player to flourish.
The defender has made 98 appearances for the Premier League side, scoring five goals and registering 36 assists during his three years with the Tractor Boys.
Leif Davis explains the decision to stay at Ipswich Town
While Ipswich Town are battling to remain in the Premier League so far this season, Davis revealed the key reason why he opted to stay despite the club’s uncertain future in England’s top flight.
“I am really pleased to have signed a new contract,” Davis said in the official announcement. “I have loved my time at the Club so far and have improved so much during my two seasons here working with this group of players and under a Manager who has done so much for me. This feels like home now and I am excited to continue the journey.” Â
Manager Kieran McKenna noted that it was an ideal contract extension agreement for the club as they kept a key component of their squad.
“We are all delighted that Leif has committed his future to the Club,” McKenna said. “Leif has made huge strides over the last two-and-a-half seasons and has developed well, both as a player and as a young man.Â
“He has been an important part of the successes of the last two seasons and now has the opportunity to play regularly in the Premier League for the first time in his career. We are excited to have the opportunity to work with him for an extended period and are confident he will continue to work hard to improve and develop in all areas.”
