Former Leeds United sporting director Victor Orta is on his way to losing support amongst one more fanbase as the Sevilla supporters lashed out at the Spaniard in a reserve team game on Sunday.
It has been over a year since Orta exited Elland Road but he remains a deeply divisive figure amongst the Leeds supporters.
While Marcelo Bielsa openly credited the Spanish deal maker for finding players for him that got Leeds promoted to the Premier League in 2020, his signings at the top level were heavily criticised.
His failure to support Bielsa and his decision to appoint Jesse Marsch and Javi Gracia has been used as a lightning rod to slam Orta for his final year or two as Leeds’ sporting director.
The Spaniard also negotiated the contracts that left Leeds vulnerable to players leaving the club on loan following their relegation from the Premier League.
The 45-year-old took charge of Seville as their new sporting director last year and it is not going well for Orta in Spain as well.
The ex-Leeds United deal maker is under fire from Sevilla fans
Sevilla finished a disappointing 14th in La Liga in the 2023/24 campaign and are not involved in European football this season, which was a staple diet at the club until recently.
They have made another slow start to the season and are sitting 12th in the league after winning just two of their opening seven La Liga fixtures.
Orta has been blamed for the recruitment with new signings failing to make the kind of mark that the club would have hoped for.
According to Mundo Deportivo, the former Leeds sporting director was roundly booed off by almost 2000 Sevilla supporters in a reserve team game on Sunday.
The moment he entered the director’s box, the Sevilla fans made their displeasure known loudly and demanded the entire board’s resignation.
Orta is under pressure at Sevilla and their fans are losing faith in him just like Leeds supporters did towards the end of his time at Elland Road.
