Ex-Leeds United star has grave concerns about the ‘smallest’ squad in the league

Former Leeds United star David Norris has conceded that the Whites tried to do too much on transfer deadline day and are still short of numbers in their squad.

Leeds are sitting fourth in the Championship table after four games and are being tipped as one of the top contenders to earn automatic promotion to the Premier League.

However, Leeds did lose key players in the summer transfer window with stars such as Archie Gray, Crysencio Summerville and Georginio Rutter moving to Premier League clubs.

Leeds had a frantic last few days of the window and brought in players such as Largie Ramazani, Manor Solomon, Ao Tanaka and Isaac Schmidt towards the end of the summer.

However, Norris is still unconvinced that Leeds have a big enough squad for a long Championship campaign.

David Norris is unsure about how Leeds United will deal with being the ‘smallest’ squad in the league

The ex-Leeds star conceded that he is still worried about the size of the squad and whether they have enough to deal with a toiling Championship season.

Norris believes the Leeds squad is still one striker short given Patrick Bamford’s injury issues and feels the club tried to do far too much on the final day while being mindful of not paying over the odds for anyone.

“I’m still concerned about the size of Leeds’ squad – it’s bigger than before but still the smallest in the league, and I’m not sure how that might affect them”, the former White told MOT Leeds News.

“They didn’t get everyone they wanted on deadline day and it’s a good job they managed to get a couple over the line. I personally thought another striker was a must with Patrick Bamford’s injury record.

“I just feel like they didn’t bite the bullet with paying over the odds for players and tried to do too much on the last day.”
