Ex-Leeds United star termed ‘anonymous’ in heavy defeat

Former Leeds United star Crysencio Summerville has earned the infamous ‘anonymous’ tag in West Ham’s heavy 5-1 defeat at Liverpool in the Carabao Cup third round.

Summerville joined West Ham from Leeds in the summer after the Hammers triggered the release clause in his contract at Elland Road.

The Dutch winger was the top scorer at Leeds and losing him was a body blow given the Whites missed out on promotion by a whisker after losing the playoff final against Southampton.

He wanted to play in the Premier League and West Ham provided him an escape route out of Elland Road in the last summer transfer window.

However, Summerville has yet to score a goal or register an assist in the six appearances he has made for West Ham since joining the club in the summer.

The Dutchman started against Liverpool on Wednesday night but was again anonymous as the Hammers crashed out of the competition following a 5-1 defeat at Anfield.

The former Leeds United star has been termed ‘anonymous’

Summerville failed to make any sort of impact as West Ham bowed out of the Carabao Cup following a timid defeat against Liverpool on Merseyside.

Anfield is not an easy place to visit but the Hammers failed to lay much of a glove on Arne Slot’s side and were swatted aside by the Reds.

Summerville scored a famous winning goal in Leeds United’s 2-1 win over Liverpool at Anfield in October 2022 when the Whites were in the Premier League.

However, his performance on Wednesday night has been slammed because of how ‘anonymous’ he was during the game against the Merseyside giants.

The London Evening Standard rated his performance a five out of ten and wrote: “Apart from one run at Liverpool, Summerville was anonymous at Anfield.”

Summerville has made a slow start to his time at West Ham who have also struggled at the beginning of the season, winning just one of their opening five Premier League games.
