Ex-Premier League striker issues brutal Leeds United relegation warning

The 5-0 defeat at Arsenal was a brutal reality check for Leeds United last weekend, and a warning of the challenges they will face this season. However, crashing out of the EFL Cup at the hands of a second-string Sheffield Wednesday side on Tuesday night has got the alarm bells ringing.

Daniel Farke’s side looked bereft of ideas and creativity against a struggling Championship side at Hillsborough. They ultimately crashed out on penalties, but Leeds never looked like winning the game, and the manager has several questions to ponder over in the next few days ahead of the Newcastle game.

Leeds also lost one of their best players in Ao Tanaka to an injury. Farke is now missing two of his midfield three, and will be forced into making a few changes to his team this weekend.

However, there are concerns that the Leeds squad are still not good enough to survive, and the team will need reinforcements from the market before the transfer window closes on Monday night.

Gabby Agbonlahor doesn’t feel Leeds United are good enough

Leeds have three points from their opening two games, but the performances against Arsenal and Sheffield Wednesday have raised concerns about the team.

The Whites have also lost two key players in Ethan Ampadu and Tanaka, and there are concerns that their forward line is not good enough to score regularly in the Premier League.

Former Aston Villa striker Gabby Agbonlahor, who defended Dominic Calvert-Lewin, has insisted that he hasn’t seen much quality in any area of the pitch for Leeds at the start of the season.

He is certain that Leeds are one of the clubs that will get relegated from the Premier League as they just don’t have enough quality in their squad.

“All over the pitch, defensively, goalkeeper, midfield and attacking-wise, I think Leeds will definitely go back down”, Agbonlahor said on talkSPORT.

“I don’t think they have enough.”

Leeds are facing a few decisive days in the transfer window

Daniel Farke wants to bring in two attackers to bolster his options in the final third of the pitch, but Leeds have another big issue to solve.

It is unclear whether Leeds are considering signing midfield cover, but they look short in that area of the squad due to injuries to Ethan Ampadu and Ao Tanaka.

Leeds have a few big decisions to make on their squad in the final days of the transfer window, and they may need more players to improve their chances of survival.

However, it is uncertain whether the Leeds hierarchy are prepared to splash big cash before the end of the window, given they have already spent more than £100m this summer.

The 49s have to take a financial laxative and spend on the quality players that make a difference. I have no problems with losing to Sheffield Wednesday, in fact it gives us a better chance in the Premiership games. Sunderland chose the same path – they know where the money lies. However, the 49s are really underwhelming in the transfer market. Leeds NEED 3 top players – striker,m creative winger, and a boss defender. They need to spend big to get what is needed and sort out the FFP worry later. Nottingham Forest and Everton took the pain but avoided relegation. The problem and solution is down to 49s only.
