Leeds United suffered relegation from the Premier League in 2022.
After two seasons in the English top flight, the fans at Elland Road were doomed to experience the emotions that came with being demoted.
After going through three coaches, the club still suffered relegation. Javi Gracia, Jesse Marsch and Sam Allardyce all could not prevent the inevitable.
The summer before Leeds’ return to the championship was tough on fans; multiple players in the team had relegation clauses and were fighting for a way out to leave the club.
When Daniel Farke was appointed, he made sure that the only players that stayed at the club wanted to play that season. A whole host of players were loaned out, with their contracts set to expire around 2025 and 2026. This year, with Leeds set for another promotion charge, a lot of players have an uncertain future.

One of such players is Junior Firpo. The Leeds United defender has raised eyebrows with his latest comments on his future at the club. The 28-year old fullback has started all 13 games he has played this season and has a goal and three assists in this campaign. He has been Daniel Farke’s first choice option at left back.
This has meant new signing Isaac Schmidt has not gotten a chance to play. Daniel Farke said this week that the 24-year needs to work hard to stand a chance of playing.
Firpo was speaking to the Yorkshire Evening Post:
“Football is like that. One day you are here, another day you are there. But that is the topic I’ve been discussing with myself since we got relegated. Obviously, I could have done the same [as others who left], I could have gone away. I have my options, I think everyone knows, it’s not a thing that I can hide.
“I had my options and I could go away, but as you say, my family is settled here. We are doing really good at the moment, but we don’t know what the future will say for me.”
Will Junior Firpo leave?
Firpo’s contract runs out at the end of the season, but there have been talks that he would renew his contract with the club soon.
Daniel Farke has hinted that the club will address the future of some players, including Firpo, soon:
“If I’m honest, I haven’t thought about this scenario so far because it was such a difficult summer and we had to speak about other things.
“There will be the time when we speak about the future. You also know how much I really rate Junior and Sam, and how important they are for us.”
The Leeds United boss has an eye on business next year, as this former player has been linked with a return to the club.
