Expert baffled at Leeds’ £15M decision vs Wolves

Leeds United spent close to £100million this summer, with a chunk of it going to the defence and the midfield. The lack of investment in attacking areas seems to have angered fans over the past few weeks.

The Whites have not scored a goal from open play in the league; this season, they have scored just two goals in total. Lukas Nmecha is the only attacker in the squad that has been able to find the back of the net.

Daniel Farke has made the bold call to keep an unchanged lineup from the Fulham game. This means that summer signing Jaka Bijol remains on the bench. The Slovenian international has failed to win a starting spot. Ian Darke says he is ”surprised” at why the defender has not played more:

“He hasn’t been able to force his way past the people in possession of a starting spot, which is Joe Rodon and Struijk.

“He played the League Cup game against Sheffield Wednesday, and having seen it myself at the Euros, playing for Slovenia, I’d be a little bit surprised if he doesn’t find his way in at some point.

“But they’ve been competitive in the other games. So, maybe he doesn’t want to change that defence. I think Bijol’s time will come, I’m pretty sure.“

Daniel Farke explained why Leeds United star is yet to play regularly

Bijol has been handed one start this season, alongside fellow summer signing Sebastiaan Bornauw in the EFL Cup tie against Sheffield Wednesday. On Thursday, Daniel Farke explained why Bijol has not featured much this season.

“I liked Jaka a lot in pre-season but he was not available for Everton.

“The final one or two pre-season games you go for the line-up you’d play and so Jaka missed major parts of the last two friendlies.

“Really good performance from our centre-backs, nearly three clean sheets.

“Pascal and Joe have outstanding performances and this is how professional football works. For Jaka, first outing in the cup was difficult. Perhaps not the most convincing game.

“He’s a really good player, mid to long-term very important for us.”
