Fabrizio Romano confirms Leeds United offer for in-form Serie A ace

Leeds United remain active in the January transfer window as they look to strengthen their squad ahead of the deadline in a week.

Operating with limited funds, the Whites have already added to their attacking options by bringing in Facundo Buonanotte on loan from Brighton, after he turned down the same move last summer.

Leeds are actively working on a deal to sign Wolves striker Jorgen Strand Larsen, and are said to be closing in on a deal to sign the Norwegian forward amid competition from clubs in the Premier League.

The Whites have also been looking at other attacking options, and Fabrizio Romano has confirmed a move the Whites made even before the transfer window opened this month.

Leeds United’s offer for Como star Martin Baturina confirmed by Romano

It recently emerged that Leeds made a bid worth £26m for the Como attacking midfielder to take him to Elland Road during the winter transfer window.

The Whites’ interest in Baturina was known, but it seemed the club indeed made a concrete move to sign the attacking midfielder in the middle of the season.

Table: Martin Baturina’s appearances, goals, assists and minutes across competitions this season
Competition Games Goals Assists Minutes
Serie A 14 4 3 470
Italy Cup 2 0 1 92
Total (All Competitions) 15 3 3 494

However, Romano confirmed that Leeds made the approach in December, and it seems certain that Como are in no mood to sell him in the winter window.

The Italian journalist revealed that Como considers Baturina one of the players who are ‘untouchable’ in the transfer window and won’t entertain any offers for him.

It seems Leeds’ approach was rebuffed, and the Whites signed Facundo Buonanotte on loan from Brighton during the ongoing transfer window.

Baturina is unlikely to leave Como before the end of the window, and Leeds seem to be focused on adding a striker in the last week of the transfer window.

He again scored and assisted in Como’s 6-0 win over Torino on Saturday.

Leeds are unlikely to sign Baturina in January

The Whites are not expected to add another attacking midfielder or winger after securing Facundo Buonanotte on loan earlier this month.

Leeds United’s focus has now shifted to signing a striker before the transfer window shuts, although completing such a deal is likely to be complicated.

The club have not played down their interest in Wolves forward Jorgen Strand Larsen, with sources indicating Leeds are now on the verge of finalising a deal to sign the Norwegian this month.

Leeds are also considering bringing in a left-back cover due to Gabriel Gudmundsson’s injury.

While Baturina remains a player admired by Leeds, their attention at this stage of the window is firmly on more pressing priorities. Any move for him may have to wait until next summer.

Why are you even considering a midfielder after signing Facundo Buonanotte all be it on loan, when clearly we need another defender and striker, your also admitting a certain player would not be available till the summer, we are only interested in the present and staying up, deal with whats needed now, your throwing names about like confetti, and getting no where sort it out! 🙈

The 49ers plans are exposed again. They offer too little, and too late, or chase players they know they can’t get. It’s designed to look like they are trying to sign players. How many times have they done this now? They are playing games. Hamer, Wilson, that Brazilian flop, half of Sunderland’s signings etc. It’s always last minute – while teams below us spend and have benefitted from the new players. We put all our eggs in one basket, and blame the player, the other team, or the won’t pay the fee. Now, they chase Baturina, who has been off-limits, and Leeds have been told so. It’s a joke. They are pulling the wool over Leeds fan’s eyes.
