Leeds U21 goalkeeper Rory Mahady completed a short term loan to Scunthorpe United. The Scotland youth international was in action on Wednesday night in Scunthorpe’s National League game against York City.
Mahady joined the National League side on an ’emergency’ loan as stated by the club’s website:
“Scunthorpe United is delighted to announce the signing of hot prospect goalkeeper Rory Mahady on a short term loan deal from Leeds United.
“The nature of this loan sees Mahady join United ahead of tonight’s encounter with York City, providing an instant impact due to Rory Watson being unable to feature against his parent club and Maison Campbell being injured to face his former side.”
The Leeds youngster was a part of the Leeds side that won the National League Cup at the end of last season.

Scunthorpe had two keepers unavailable to face York City – Rory Watson was ineligible to face his parent club and Maison Campbell was injured and thus unavailable for the game. So Mahady had to be called into action on the same night he was announced.
The young keeper made a huge impression on Wednesday night with Scunthorpe manager Andy Butler praising him for his performance. Butler also revealed that Mahady received a standing ovation from his teammates after the game:
“It’s a great debut, by the way, his distribution was class,” Butler said.
“When Rory came into the changing room, they gave him a standing ovation, which is brilliant for him.
“I mean, what an experience he’s got at his young age already. He’s got to come here. He’s made some great saves, by the way. He’s won, I think, low down, where he scooped it away.”
He added, “It just shows you the pedigree he’s got at Leeds. Thank you, Leeds, so much for facilitating it, because without them, we’d have no goalkeeper,”
“It’s great to be able to use a goalkeeper of that quality.”
Great start for Rory Mahady
Playing at a level like that is great experience for the young goalkeeper. He has played most of his career at youth level so featuring for a professional club is very valuable. It is a short term deal, but hopefully he can make the most out of it.
