Fans sent ‘warning’ over 49ers and upcoming Leeds United transfer spend – big decision needs to be made

Leeds United fans will be glad to hear about the club’s transfer plans this summer. With the Premier League coming up, some serious signings will be made.

The excitement increased as club chairman Paraag Marathe came out to promise the club that they will be able to spend heavily this summer. A budget of around £150million is expected to be available to Daniel Farke. Some say this is not enough to build a quality team, but only one promoted club spent more than this figure this season.

Despite that, all of them still got relegated.

Fans will be excited at the prospect of spending big money, and new faces at Elland Road. But Leeds will have to be careful with their spend. Graham Smyth has warned the fans that the 49ers could make some serious decisions when it comes to player sales.

“One of the big things to keep in mind this summer is Leeds probably will need a sale or two.

“Yes, you’ve gone up, but that doesn’t necessarily mean you’ve got the headroom to make the expenditure you want.

“You might need to do some clever wheeling and dealing and some clever accountancy.

“And, when you look at the squad, the players that give you the most headroom are actually some of those where you wouldn’t naturally think, ‘yeah, we’ll ship him on’.

Smyth then goes on to say that big decisions will need to be made to decide who could be sold to balance the books.

“It’s even players who you think will be good enough. There’s some big decisions to make, for sure. I almost wouldn’t take anything off the table.”

Who could be sold this summer?

There have been some names floated already. Illan Meslier is one expected to leave next summer after the events of this season. Brenden Aaronson has been criticized by fans, who think he should be sold before next season begins. Jack Harrison, who is already working on his exit, could also fetch the club some profit on its books.
