It was confirmed last week that Leeds United had reached a settlement with Everton over a PSR breach. However, it was just an out-of-court settlement that did not directly involve the Premier League.
The Toffees breached PSR during the 2021-22 season earlier this year, and a Premier League independent commission found Everton guilty in November 2023. The club later admitted to exceeding the permitted three-year losses of £105m by around £19.5m. Everton were docked 10 points in 2023, which was reduced to six on appeal. This allowed Everton’s rivals to assess potential loss on earnings as a result of this rule breach.
Leeds took up the case, and reached an agreement earlier this year to settle the matter.

Though there was no official news on how much was paid out for the settlement, former Manchester City financial adviser Stefan Borson has a very good idea of the amounts involved.
“Well, it wasn’t a massive surprise.” he said speaking to Football Insider.
“I did speculate in March when we first found out that Burnley were suing Everton about what might have happened to the other teams, and the one thing that was absolutely clear that they had some kind of claim was Leeds, probably only a claim for one place in the league.
“That would have been worth £2-2.5m. I think they’ll have just taken a discount for the question as to whether they’d win the case.
“I don’t know, 40-45 per cent, and probably settled for about £1-1.5m, something like that.
“It’s not worth the battle. It’s a very manageable amount for Everton to pay.
“It goes away, takes out the risk, takes out the distraction, takes out the legal fees, and everyone moves on. I think it’s something like that.”
Everton could pay even more to Premier League club
Leicester City, Southampton and Nottingham Forest were among the other clubs that considered legal action over the same issue. Stefan Borson also revealed that the Toffees could end up paying Burnley £10million, if the Clarets succeed in their legal battle.
For now, Leeds have gotten their compensation, and the matter will not be pursued further in the future.
