Leeds United’s first season back in the big time has come to an end. United crowned the campaign with a win over West Brom to secure a 9th placed finish.
But change is on its way to Elland Road in the summer. Leeds have recently announced that club heroes Pablo Hernandez and Gaetano Berardi will be on their way and it’s highly likely that Gjanni Alioski will be joining them. Thus, the left-back slot will be left wide open.
So today, we’re looking at 5 left-backs Leeds United should move to sign this summer.
Romain Perraud
Leeds have already been linked with Perraud and it’s easy to understand why. The Frenchman has become one of the leading left backs in Ligue 1 this season, notching 7 assists. He’s got bags of pace and is only 23 years old, so the best is still to come from the former France U20s international.
Rico Henry
Brentford are currently battling to earn their way into the Premier League via the playoffs. Should they fail as they did last season, plenty of clubs will be circling around Rico Henry and Leeds United should be one of them. Henry is easily the best left back in the Championship. His pace and willingness to go forward makes him a wonderful fit for this Leeds United side. He may be a pricey acquisition however. Championship players come at a premium and with him being English, the fee will undoubtedly increase.
Nicolas Tagliafico
The time has come for Tagliafico to leave Ajax after 4 seasons with the club. A Premier League move is seemingly on the cards, with Manchester City, Chelsea and Leeds being linked with the Argentine. Tagliafico has top level experience in abundance, reaching the Champions League semi-final in 2019. The 28-year-old is brilliant on the ball, which is a necessity to play in this Leeds team. With Champions League pedigree in his locker, he would be an asset for almost any side.
Ludwig Augustinsson
If Leeds are searching for a fullback who has played at the top level for years with international experience in the bag, then they couldn’t go wrong with Augustinsson. The Swedish full back has earned 32 caps for his country and has spent 4 years playing in the Bundesliga for Werder Bremen. He’s about to enter his prime at 27 years old and would be a great buy for Leeds United.
Philipp Max
Max is a player with a consistent output in terms of attacking returns over the last few seasons. He’s notched 5 goals and 8 assists for PSV this season. He’s produced similar numbers throughout his career especially during his time in the Bundesliga with Augsburg. He produced a whopping 12 assists in the 2017-18 season. With attacking statistics like that, why wouldn’t Leeds be interested? He’s 27 years old, so with his prime years just around the corner, he would be a fantastic signing this summer.
