Leeds United have done some good business already this window, but the fans want more and Marcelo Bielsa could very well do with more if he wants to secure European football this season. The experts believe United still need another midfielder as well as a winger to provide cover to the likes of Jack Harrison and Raphinha. So, here’s five players Leeds should look to sign this summer.
Dan James
Once upon a time, Dan James to Leeds looked like a certainty. However, that quickly evaporated and he was eventually poached by Manchester United. Despite a positive start to life at Old Trafford, he now finds himself down the pecking order in Manchester and could look for a move away to secure more first team football whilst the higher ups at Man U may want to move on a few bodies after a busy summer. With pace to burn and superb skill, James could be the ideal cover on the flanks for Leeds.
Adama Traore
Another player Leeds have had a registered interest in, Traore would also provide perfect cover on the wings thanks to his pace and strength. With Wolves facing a revamp this season following the departure of Nuno Espirito Santo, he could quite easily be moved on especially after his lukewarm performances last term. Under Bielsa, he could be a revelation and is therefore worth a punt.
Takumi Minamino
The same could be said of Minamino. Since joining Liverpool in January 2020, he’s struggled to settle in at Anfield despite claiming a Premier League medal. At times he’s shown a touch of class and has had a superb pre-season. The Reds reportedly need to move players out before they can bring new faces in, so could be tempted into letting Minamino leave for a modest fee.
Sander Berge
So far we’ve looked at three wingers, but Leeds also need cover in the midfield so there’s less pressure on Kalvin Phillips to remain fit. Sander Berge could therefore be the ideal transfer target thanks to his Premier League experience and the fact he could quite easily be tempted to Elland Road by the promise of more top tier football after Sheffield United suffered relegation last year.
Jefferson Lerma
Another midfielder with huge quality who could be tempted to Leeds by the promise of Premier League football, Jefferson Lerma could be a very astute signing especially thanks to his versatility. With over 100 appearances for Bournemouth, the 26-year-old has plenty of experience and would be the perfect understudy to Phillips in midfield.
